Specifications for Halogen Headlight Amperage

Most cars today come standard with halogen headlights. When shopping for a new halogen light, the auto shop will have a book to look up the bulb needed for your vehicle, but you may want to know the amperage of the bulb, especially if you have non-factory headlamps.
55-Watt Bulb
A 55-watt bulb run at 12 volts and draws 4.58 amps. These bulbs typically provide about 4,000 candela -- a measurement of light intensity. While they use only 55 watts, these halogen bulbs deliver 100 to 125 watts of light. 55-watt bulbs are typically used for standard headlights.
60-Watt Bulb
A 60-watt halogen bulb draws 5 amps of power. These bulbs have an intensity of about 4,000 candela and deliver around 135 watts of light. High beam headlights generally use a 60-watt bulb.
35-Watt Bulb
A 35-watt halogen bulb running at 12 volts draws 2.92 amps. These lamps are typically used as fog lights and deliver 70 watts of light while using only 35 watts of power.
45-Watt Bulb
A 45-watt bulb draws 3.75 amps of power running at 12 volts. These lamps deliver 95 watts of light. The 45-watt bulb is used in some vehicles as the standard headlight bulb.

How to Install a Headlight on a 2007 Caliber

There are some vehicles that are somewhat easy to replace headlights on. Unfortunately, the 2007 Dodge Caliber (and many other Dodge vehicles) is not one of them. The owners manual of the vehicle will inform the owner to bring the car to the dealership for service when a headlight burns out. However, this is not always convenient and is rather costly. Replacing the headlight as a do-it-yourself project is possible, but its going to require a degree of mechanical skill.
Instructions
- 1
Apply the parking brake securely on the 2007 Dodge Caliber with the headlight switch and engine off.
2Lift one front corner of the car with a jack and then lower the jack down onto a jack stand placed under the front frame. Repeat this step for the other front corner to elevate the front axle of the car.
3Turn the ignition key one turn to unlock the steering wheel, and turn the wheel inward away from the respective fender (the drivers side headlight would require turning the wheel all the way to the right and the passenger side headlight would require turning the wheel all the way to the left). Turn the ignition key back to the off position.
4Loosen the screws of the front splash shield/wheel well with the screwdriver. If necessary to reach behind the wheel well, remove a couple of the screws. The wheel well is plastic and somewhat pliable and manageable.
5Shine a flashlight in through the wheel well to locate the headlight electrical connection. The inboard connector is the headlight, while the outboard connector is the parking and directional bulb connector on whichever side (drivers or passenger) the headlight is being replaced.
6Disconnect the electrical connector plug from the socket base of the headlight.
7Turn the socket base of the bulb counterclockwise a quarter turn. Remove the headlight from the lens assembly and extract it through the opening in the wheel well.
8Put on a pair of latex gloves before handling the H13 automotive replacement bulb. Skin oil will compromise the glass bulb of the headlight due to the intense heat it burns at when lit.
9Insert the replacement bulb through the loosened wheel well splash guard and insert it into the lens assembly. Aligning the socket base tabs with the notches in the back of the lens assembly will be required. Use the flashlight to help locate the correct alignment. Turn the socket base of the headlight a quarter turn clockwise to lock it into place and reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the headlight socket base.
10Test the headlight (both low and high beams) before tightening the wheel well screws and lowering the Caliber.

How to Replace a Headlight on a 1500 Gold Wing
In 1988 Honda introduced its new touring motorcycle, the Gold Wing GL1500. Since then, the Gold Wing 1500 was in constant production until 2004, when it was replaced with the 1800 model. The Gold Wing brand is one of the top models of touring bikes, giving real challenge, and sometimes overtaking American favorites such as Harley-Davidson or Titan. In keeping with Hondas design philosophy, maintenance on the Gold Wing 1500 isnt overly complex and even a complete novice should be able to replace a 1500s headlight with little trouble.
Instructions
- 1
Raise the windshield adjustment lever on each side of your Gold Wings windshield to its highest position.
2Remove the plastic trim from under the windshield. There will be two screws.
3Remove the two screws holding the trim under the headlight in with a screwdriver. This will give you access to the lower pair of bolts holding the headlight in.
4Unscrew the four bolts holding the headlight in with a socket or wrench.
5Pull the headlight out of the Gold Wing.
6Disconnect the wire connectors on the back of the headlight with a small flat-head screwdriver.
7Connect the wire connectors to your new headlight.
8Follow steps one through six in reverse to install the new headlight.

How to Remove a Headlight on a 1994 Isuzu Trooper
The headlights on a 1994 Isuzu Trooper use a halogen bulb and a glass housing to display light on the road. Since the headlight assembly is made of glass, it can crack or get damaged from flying debris while driving. If that happens, then you will want to remove the headlight to replace it with a new assembly. This should take about 20 minutes to do.
Instructions
- 1
Pop the hood. Reach behind the headlights and unplug the harness leading to the halogen bulb in the lens. Remove the corner lenses on the grille using the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the corner lenses off of the grille and untwist the bulb from the back of the lens.
2Remove the screws around the perimeter of the grille with the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the grille off and away from the front end of the truck.
3Unscrew the retainers holding the headlight in place using the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the headlight assembly away from the core support.

How to Repair a Headlight

As with any machine that is used day to day, cars are vulnerable to normal wear and tear. Occasionally the headlights on a motor vehicle will need to be repaired or replaced. It is important to exercise caution whenever touching a cars electrical equipment. Upgrading the headlight system from an older system is also advisable, as brighter headlights can offer higher visibility. Making sure the headlights work properly is important for the vehicles safety.
Instructions
- 1
Remove the plastic cover of the headlight by opening the hood to gain access to its screws. Unscrew the screws at the top and side of the cover and set screws aside. Unscrew the bulb of the headlight and discard it.
2Disconnect the wires leading to the headlight by using the socket wrench to loosen the socket bolts on the wires ends. Gently remove the wires and set them in a place away from the headlight. Use the socket wrench once more to loosen the sockets attaching the headlight to the front of the engine block.
3Lift out the headlight and place it to the side. Take the replacement headlight and gently place it where the old headlight resided in the front of the engine block. Tighten the bolts of the headlight to the car by using the socket wrench.
4Reconnect the wires with the socket wrench, paying close attention to the tightness of the bolt (loose bolts can trap dirt and water). Screw in the new headlight bulb, but be careful not to use bare hands; instead, use shop gloves or a clean towel.
5Place the new clear casing over top of the headlight and re-screw the casing tightly in place. Test headlights to ensure proper installation.

How to Replace a Headlight Bulb on a 2004 Grand Prix

The 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix houses two headlight bulbs per drivers side and passenger side headlight assembly. The low beam bulbs are located on the fender side of the headlight assemblies and the high beam bulbs are on the grill side of the assemblies. Allow the bulbs look exactly alike, they require different automotive part numbers for low and high beam bulbs. Because of this, inspecting the position of the faulty headlight in the assembly and buying the correct bulb will make the repair that much easier.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Grand Prix on a flat surface, apply the parking brake and ensure both the engine and headlight switches are off.
2Open the hood and approach the headlight assembly with the faulty headlight bulb.
3Locate the headlight assembly retaining clip. Its behind the headlight assembly on top on the fender side. Lift the clip upward halfway to release the headlight assembly.
4Pull the assembly out being careful not to scratch the paint on the fender or the lens of the assembly.
5Reach behind the assembly and disconnect the wire connection and plug from the headlight bulb socket.
6Turn the socket of the bulb counterclockwise 1/4-turn to remove the composite bulb from the assembly. Discard the bulb.
7Install the replacement bulb into the assembly (handling the plastic socket part only -- oil in skin will damage the glass bulb of halogen bulbs because of the intense heat they burn at), but ensure the tabs of the socket end of the bulb are aligned with the notches in the assembly before turning it clockwise and locking the bulb into place.
8Plug the wire connection back into the socket of the bulb before replacing the assembly back into place and pushing down on the retaining clip. Test the headlight bulb for operation before closing the hood.
