How to Get Auto Recall Work Done on a Car

Either a vehicle manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) may issue a recall for vehicles with safety concerns. Even if a manufacturer issues a recall, it must contact the NHTSA and all new car dealers, owners and distributors. Manufacturers are able to locate the current owners of defective vehicles owners through state motor vehicle offices. If you receive a notice about a recall, you may have your vehicle repaired for free.

Instructions

    1

Locate your vehicle identification number on your title, insurance card or registration.

    2

Call a same-make dealership. Find a dealer in your area by visiting the manufacturers website and using the "Locate a Dealer" function.

    3

Contact the dealers service department and state that you want to make an appointment for a recall repair.

    4

Provide your vehicle identification number to the service representative, along with your contact information.

    5

Arrive to your appointment on time to have your vehicle repaired.
