How to Remove 2004 Duramax Injectors

The Duramax family of diesel engines are designed by Isuzu and built by General Motors. They are primarily available in medium-duty trucks, such as the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup. The first generation of Duramax engines had the engine code LB7, and were in production from 2001 through 2004. The 2004 Duramax engine used common-rail direct injection, which does not rely on an electronic controller. The procedure for removing the fuel injectors from a LB7 Duramax engine is generally the same for all vehicles.

Instructions

    1

    Disconnect the cable from the batterys negative terminal with a socket wrench to prevent the accidental discharge of fuel during the injector removal. Remove the mounting bolts for the lower valve cover and disconnect the cover.

    Remove the retaining bolts for the fuel spill line with a socket wrench, and detach the spill line from the fuel injector. Remove the retainer bolt from the bracket of the fuel injector.

    Attach fuel injector removal tool J 44639 to the bracket for the fuel injector. Grip the handle of the removal tool with a flare nut wrench.

    Pull the flare nut wrench away from the fuel injector to pry it out of the injector hole. Remove the fuel injector from the vehicle.

    Check the fuel injector for a copper washer. Remove the washer from the injection hole if the washer is not on the injector.

    6

    Repeat Steps Two through Five to remove the remaining fuel injectors.

How to Install Injectors on a Toyota 3RZ FE Engine

The Toyota 3RZ-FE engine is a four-cylinder, 2.7-liter engine that Toyota typically used in late-model trucks. This engine is common in the Toyota Tacoma four-wheel drive pickup truck, which was made from 1995 to 2004. The fuel injectors on the 3RZ-FE engine are part of the fuel rail assembly, which is on top of the engine. The installation of the fuel injectors therefore requires the removal of the fuel rail.

Instructions

    1

    Disconnect the cable for the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench to prevent electrical shocks. Remove the cover for the relay block in the engine compartment and disconnect the circuit opening relay in the relay block. Connect the negative battery terminal and start the engine.

    Allow the engine to stall and turn the ignition switch on. Crank the engine to ensure that the fuel system is empty. Remove the cap on the fuel tank cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Install the circuit opening relay.

    Remove the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Disconnect the throttle body from the engine block with a socket wrench and detach the electrical connectors for the fuel injectors. Disconnect the connectors for the crankshaft position sensor, knock sensor and data link connector.

    Disconnect the vacuum line and fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator. Remove the union bolt and its gaskets from the fuel rail with a socket wrench. Detach the fuel inlet pipe from the fuel rail and pull the fuel rail from the engine block with the fuel injectors still attached.

    Remove the insulators and spaces from each fuel injector and discard them. Detach the fuel injectors from the fuel rail. Discard the O-rings and grommets for the fuel injectors.

    Lubricate the new O-rings and grommets with gasoline and mount them onto the fuel rail. Install the new fuel injectors to the fuel rail so that the the electrical connectors face up. Install the new insulators and spacers onto the intake manifold.

    7

    Complete the installation of the fuel injectors by performing Steps 3 and 4 in reverse order. Torque the bolts that attach the fuel pipe to the intake manifold to 15 pound-feet with a torque wrench. Tighten the union bolt on the fuel rail to 22 pound-feet.

How to Change Fuel Injectors on a 1987 RX 7

The RX-7 is a sports car manufactured by Mazda from 1978 to 2002. The 1987 model is a second generation RX-7, which includes the 1986 through 1988 model years. The standard engine in the 1987 Mazda RX-7 was a naturally aspirated 1.3-liter engine with fuel injection. The fuel injectors are accessible from the engine compartment, but you will need to remove the throttle body from the engine to access the fuel injectors.

Instructions

    1

    Start the engine and disconnect the electrical connector for the fuel pump. Wait for the engine to stall, and then turn the ignition switch off. Disconnect the cable to the batterys negative terminal with a socket wrench. This will prevent the accidental discharge of fuel while you replace the fuel injectors. Replace the electrical connector for the fuel pump.

    Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle linkage with a socket wrench. Detach the cruise control cable and air funnel from the vehicle. Cover the fuel lines to the throttle body with a shop towel to catch spilled fuel. Disconnect the fuel lines and plug the open ends of the fuel lines with shop rags.

    Detach the electrical connector for the throttle position sensor connector. Disconnect the rod for the oil pump with a throttle-actuating lever with a socket wrench. Remove the retaining screws for the throttle body assembly and detach the throttle body assembly from the dynamic chamber.

    Disconnect the fuel line and fuel pipe from the fuel injectors with a socket wrench. Remove the electrical connectors for the fuel injector and disconnect the pressure regulator. Disconnect the distribution pipe from the fuel injector and remove the fuel injector from the vehicle. Discard the O-rings for the fuel injector.

    5

    Install the new fuel injectors and O-rings by performing Steps 2 through 4 in reverse order. Connect the cable to the negative terminal on the battery with a socket wrench. Turn the ignition on for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

How to Install the Fuel Injectors for a Gen III Engine

The LS series of engines are manufactured by General Motors for use in its rear-wheel drive vehicles. The third generation of these engines, also known as Gen III engines, were in production from 1997 through 2007. They appear in many different vehicles from General Motors, such as the Chevrolet Camaro produced from 1998 through 2002. The Gen III engine uses electronic fuel injectors to deliver fuel to the engine under high pressure.

Instructions

    1

    Remove the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench so you dont accidentally start the engine. Open the filler cap on the fuel tank to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.

    Wrap a shop rag around the pressure valve on the fuel rail and attach a fuel pressure gauge to the valve. Put the bleed hose of the fuel pressure gauge into a gasoline container and open the valve to relieve the pressure in the fuel system.

    Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail. Remove the accelerator cable and its bracket from the engine compartment with a socket wrench. Detach the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors and fuel rail.

    Remove the fuel rail and fuel injectors from the intake manifold as an assembly with a socket wrench. Spread the retainer clips for the fuel injectors apart and remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail. Discard the retainer clips and O-rings on the fuel injectors.

    5

    Coat the O-rings for the fuel injectors with engine oil and mount them to the fuel injectors. Install the new fuel injectors onto the fuel rail with the electrical terminals on the injectors facing outward. Attach new retaining clips to the fuel injectors.

    6

    Connect the fuel rail assembly to the intake manifold and tighten its mounting bolts to 89 inch-pounds with a torque wrench. Attach the electrical connectors for the fuel rail and fuel injectors. Install the accelerator cable and its bracket with the socket wrench. Attach the fuel lines to the fuel rail and tighten the fittings.

    7

    Reattach the cable to the negative battery terminal with the socket wrench and fasten the filler cap onto the fuel tank. Turn the ignition on for two seconds to pressurize the fuel system then turn it off for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition back on and check for any fuel leaks.

The fuel injector is a key component in the Mustang and the torque, horsepower and rpm performance all depend on a clean and proper functioning injector. The injector in the Mustang is available in a variety of different sizes.

Clogged System

    Fuel injectors are capable of becoming clogged and interfere with the operation of your Mustang. This problem typically occurs in Mustangs that have superchargers or turbochargers or vehicles that have been extensively modified. These situations increase the flow of fuel through the injector, which over time causes the component to wear down more quickly.

Increases Performance

    Mustang fuel injector models are differentiated by their flow rates in pounds per hour, such as 24 lbs., 42 lbs. and 80 lbs. Upgrading the model of your injector will increase the power potential of your engine. A larger-capacity Mustang injector pumps more fuel at a faster rate to your engine.

Replacing Your Fuel Injector

    Mustang fuel injectors typically last between 15,000 to 30,000 miles before needing to be serviced by a mechanic. Servicing will determine whether the system should be cleaned or replaced with a new fuel injector.
