How to Install a Gibson Exhaust

Gibson exhausts are bolt-on cat-back exhaust systems made primarily for trucks. However, Gibson does have design models for cars, motor homes, and SUVs. A cat-back exhaust system is the section of exhaust that runs from the catalytic converter to the muffler. The systems available from Gibson are of the bolt-on type, so youll only have to worry about replacing the exhaust tubing and not the delicate emissions control portion of the exhaust (the converter). Once the old exhaust system is off, install the new Gibson exhaust.

Instructions

    1

Climb under the vehicle and place the exhaust on top of 4 jack stands spaced evenly underneath the vehicle. The point of this procedure is to try to get the exhaust off the ground so that you can align the exhaust tubing with the mounting holes on the catalytic converter.

    2

Align the mounting holes on the exhaust with the mounting holes on the catalytic converter.

    3

Place an exhaust gasket between the converter and the Gibson exhaust piping. You can set it against the mating surface of the catalytic converter.

    4

Press the exhaust piping to the catalytic converter and thread the Gibson exhaust to catalytic converter bolts.

    5

    Tighten the exhaust bolts.

    6

Slide the exhaust piping hangers onto the exhaust hangers on the underside of the vehicle.

    7

Thread the O2 sensor into the Gibson exhaust. There is only one port for the O2 sensor.

    8

Connect the electrical wiring running to the O2 sensor.
