How to Replace the Harmonic Balancer on a 1994 Ford F150
The Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup truck with a 3/4-ton capacity. Ford has manufactured this popular truck continuously since 1975. The 1994 F-150 belongs to the ninth generation of the Ford F-series. The crankshaft in this vehicle must have a counterweight to dampen harmonic vibrations that can occur when the crankshaft rotates at certain speeds. The harmonic balancer can be a separate weight or simply a weighted crankshaft pulley, depending on the engine.

Disconnect the cooling fan shroud with a socket wrench, if you need additional clearance to access the crankshaft. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain and remove the drain plug with a socket wrench. Drain the coolant from the radiator into the drain pan and store the coolant for later use. Reinstall and tighten the drain plug.
2Disconnect the coolant hoses from the radiator. Remove the bolts holding the radiator in place with a socket wrench and lift the radiator out of the vehicle. Turn the tensioner bolt for the drive belt counterclockwise with a box-end wrench to relieve the tension on the drive belt. Detach the drive belt from its pulleys.
3Mark the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft with white paint to ensure that you install the pulley to its original position. You only need to perform this step if the crankshaft damper and crankshaft pulley are separate components in your vehicle.
4Disconnect the bolts that attach the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft damper using a socket wrench. You only need to perform this step if the crankshaft damper and crankshaft pulley are separate components in your vehicle.
5Remove the central retaining bolt from the crankshaft damper with a socket wrench. Pull the crankshaft damper from the crankshaft with a gear puller.
6Align the key slot on the new crankshaft damper with the key on the crankshaft and mount the damper to the crankshaft. Tighten the central retaining bolt for the crankshaft damper with a socket wrench. Fasten the retaining bolts that attach the crankshaft damper to the crankshaft pulley if the damper and pulley are separate components on your vehicle.
7Attach the drive belt to the crankshaft pulley. Install the radiator and cooling fan shroud if you removed these components earlier. Refill the radiator with coolant if necessary.

How to Pull a Harmonic Balancer on a 350 Chevy
A 350 Chevy engine may be any engine built by Chevrolet with an approximate displacement of 350 cubic inches. These engines were in continuous production from 1967 to 2002, with the last member of this series being the Vortec 5700. The Vortec 5700 appears in full-size Chevrolet trucks from 1996 to 2002. A modern 350 Chevy engine uses a harmonic balancer, also known as a crankshaft damper, to reduce the vibrations that occur when the crankshaft rotates rapidly. The crankshaft damper is a weight on the end of the crankshaft under the crankshaft pulley.

Disconnect the central mounting bolt and washer from the crankshaft balancer with a socket wrench. Remove the mounting bolts from the pulley, and detach the pulley from the crankshaft.
2Attach Tool J23523F to the crankshaft balancer. Pull the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft.
3Record the length and position of any weight pins in the front groove of the crankshaft balancer. This ensures the crankshaft balancer is properly balanced when you replace it. Remove the weight pin from the crankshaft balancer.
4Place the weight pins in their original positions on the crankshaft balancer. Apply a thin layer of Adhesive 12346141 to the keyway on the crankshaft balancer to seal the crankshaft joint.
5Align the keyway of the crankshaft balancer with the woodruff key on the crankshaft. Press the crankshaft balancer onto the crankshaft with tool J23523F. Mount the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft, and tighten the mounting bolts for the pulley to 43 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.
6Mount the central bolt and washer to the crankshaft balancer so that the crown of the washer faces away from the engine. Tighten the central bolt to 70 foot-pounds with a socket wrench.
